George Zouvelos is a proud native New Yorker of Hellenic Greek ancestry, rooted in Astoria, New York, where his cultural identity and storytelling voice were shaped. He is an independent, multi award winning actor, screenwriter, director, and producer working across film and television. He is also a voiceover actor and narrator.
George trained in the Meisner, Adler, Chubbuck, and Hagen methods and furthered his Stanislavsky studies at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City. He continues to sharpen his craft through ongoing work with respected on camera coaches and industry professionals.
He earned his Filmmaking degree from the New York Film Academy and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. George is a New York member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and serves as an Emmy Award judge. He is also a member of New York Women in Film and Television, American Film Institute (AFI), and also the International Screenwriter's Association (ISA).
Deeply connected to his community, George has been involved with Athens Square Park in Astoria, NY since the 1990s and serves as Director of New Media and Relations. Athens Square Park, located on public land in Astoria, is the only public park in the United States featuring numerous Hellenic Greek statues of notable historical and mythological figures, acquired through fundraising and community support.
George is the screenwriter, lead actor, director, and producer of the three film dramatic saga Once a Week for Life, set in and inspired by Astoria, New York. Two installments have completed principal photography, and Part I was officially released on April 14. Available to rent or buy April 14th on Apple TV / iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies & TV, Fandango at Home, DirecTV, Dish Network, Optimum (Altice), RCN, and on participating national cable and on-demand services directly after its select theatrical release. The trilogy explores generational loyalty, faith, moral responsibility, and identity within a Greek American family rooted in Queens. Each film stands independently while forming a continuous dramatic arc.
His work has earned forty nine wins, nineteen nominations, and thirty eight additional recognitions across international film festivals, including Best Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Film honors. In 2022, he won for his comedic short All Jokes Aside at the Cannes Short Film Festival and was named a finalist at the Cannes World Film Festival in 2023.
In 2022, George made his Broadway directing debut as Assistant Director and Executive Producer of An Evening With Onassis, starring Anthony Skordi of Paramount Studios’ miniseries The Offer. The production ran at the American Theatre of Actors in New York City.
Before his work in film, George served as a decorated New York City paramedic during the heroin and crack epidemic and the onset of the AIDS crisis. He later worked in law enforcement, receiving multiple honors for lifesaving, bravery, and valor, and served in undercover investigative roles examining institutional corruption. He has also worked as a bounty hunter and bail enforcement instructor and secured a United States service mark for the name Bail Boss®. He has received a service mark for Fiat Lux Studios® and one pending for Once a Week For Life®.
George has composed original music, has reimagined, remastered, edited, and adapted classics and has also published cover songs and music for his television and motion picture productions.
A lifelong advocate for civic responsibility, cultural heritage, and fairness in the arts, George promotes gender pay and benefits equity across stage, television, and film. He is also a long serving member and senior officer of AHEPA, The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association.
